About this Training

PCA 101: Foundations - Primary Care Advancement for Data Management and Exchange

This course provides an awareness-level orientation to data management and exchange within NCQA’s Primary Care Advancement program. Learners are introduced to the basic ways primary care organizations collect, use, share and protect information to support proactive, coordinated and data-informed care.

The course focuses on shared language, common data sources, basic data quality concepts, information exchange, closed-loop communication and the role of data in team-based workflows. It does not teach learners how to build technical interfaces, configure electronic health record systems, write data specifications or implement advanced interoperability solutions.

  • Recognize basic data quality concepts, including completeness, accuracy, timeliness and consistency.

  • Describe how information exchange supports care coordination, referrals, transitions and closed-loop follow-up.

  • Distinguish awareness-level data concepts from advanced technical implementation activities.
