PCA 101: Foundations - Primary Care Advancement for Behavioral Health and Integrated Team-Based Care

This course provides an awareness-level orientation to integrated team-based care within NCQA’s Primary Care Advancement program. Learners are introduced to behavioral health integration, care management, medication management and community supports as connected services that help patients receive the right support at the right time.

The course focuses on shared language, basic role clarity, simple handoffs, referral pathways, documentation and follow-up. It does not teach learners how to design a complex integrated care model, build staffing plans or implement organization-wide workflows.

What You Will Learn

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

• Explain the value of behavioral health integration, care management and comprehensive medication management.
• Identify core team roles, handoffs, barriers and enablers.
• Map basic end-to-end integrated care workflows.
• Define role clarity, scope, handoff criteria and simple metrics to evaluate impact.
• Describe how integrated team-based care supports PCA goals.

Continuing Education

This  course grants 1.0 Continuing Education Unit (CEU) points for PCMH Certified Content Experts.
This is a non AMA PRA Category 1 Credit^TM, ANA CNE, ACPE activity.
